DeMolay welcomes young men
|
DeMolay was founded by a Kansas City Mason named Frank S. Land in 1919 who wanted to help a boy whose father had passed on. The organization is active in North Carolina with chapters in four cities.
DeMolay is a Mason-sponsored international fraternity for young men 12 to 21 years of age who believe in a supreme being. It prepares young men to lead successful, happy and productive lives. It bases its approach on timeless principles and practical, hands-on experience. Active DeMolays, Senior DeMolays, DeMolay Advisers and all Master Masons are welcome at meetings. Activities include degree work, holiday parties, beach weekend retreats, Legion of Honor investitures, seasonal conclaves and Cardinal Court of Chevaliers dinner meetings.
The name derives from Jacques DeMolay born in 1244 and died a martyr in 1314. Famed alumni include Walt Disney, John Wayne, Walter Cronkite, football hall-of-famer Frank Tarkington and news anchor David Goodnow.
Rising Sons Chapter meets at Masonic Lodge 699 at 325 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. North Mecklenburg Chapter meets at the Scottish Rite Temple, 4740 Randolph Road in Charlotte. Jacksonville Chapter meets at Semper Fidelis Masonic Lodge 680 at 727 Henderson Drive in Jacksonville. And Raleigh Chapter meets at the Raleigh Masonic Temple at 1520 Caswell Street.
