Halifax:
Meet Loretta, Governor Davie’s home
One great pride of Historic Halifax is Loretta, home of William Richardson Davie.

It was built around 1784 for Brother Davie during the period when he was state legislator, delegate to the 1787 convention that wrote the United States constitution, founder of the University of North Carolina, NC governor and minister to France.

Loretta is situated near the Historic Halifax visitors’ center, open to the public and on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. It’s a fine example of early federal period design and construction. It has mostly original woodwork, inside and out.
